Crushed Brick. A unique choice for landscaping, driveways & sports surfaces

Crushed Brick

The Recycled Material Doing the Heavy Lifting in Sport, Landscaping and Outdoor Projects.

Crushed brick is one of those materials that does not need much fuss.

It looks good, works hard, drains well when specified correctly, and brings that rich red colour people recognise straight away. You will find it on baseball diamonds, tennis courts, garden paths, driveways, acreage properties, exposed aggregate finishes and plenty of outdoor projects where plain gravel just will not cut it.

At EcoGroup, crushed brick is part of a bigger story.

When bricks come through our yard and cannot be reused whole, we do not see waste. We see material that still has plenty of work left in it. Those bricks are processed, crushed and screened into practical products for sport, landscaping and construction.

A brick might have started life in a wall, chimney, factory or old home. Next thing you know, it is helping shape a baseball diamond, a garden path, a driveway or a court surface.

That is resource recovery doing what it should.

How Crushed Brick Is Made

Crushed brick starts with recovered brick material from construction and demolition sites.

When those materials arrive at EcoGroup, they are sorted and assessed. Bricks suitable for whole-brick reuse are cleaned, stacked and prepared for resale. Bricks that are not suitable for that purpose can still have plenty of value, so they are separated and processed into crushed brick products.

From there, the material is crushed and screened into different sizes depending on the job it needs to do.

Fine red porous crushed brick is commonly used for sporting surfaces such as baseball diamonds and clay tennis courts. Larger grades are better suited to pathways, driveways, drainage, landscaping and exposed aggregate finishes.

The process is straightforward:

Why Crushed Brick Works So Well

The colour gives outdoor areas warmth straight away. The texture works beautifully with planting, timber, stone, native gardens and older homes. It feels more natural than concrete and has more personality than generic gravel.

A garden path should not feel like an afterthought. A driveway should not look like a patch of leftover quarry product. A sports surface should not just look good on day one, it needs to handle real use.

Crushed brick earns its place because it brings a natura red colour and texture, practical surface performance, drainage benefits, strong contrast in landscape design, and it comes in multiple crush grades and sizes for jobs of all types.

Crushed Brick for Baseball Diamonds

Baseball diamondsneed a surface that looks sharp, handles use and can be maintained across the season.

That is where red porous crushed brick comes in.

EcoGroup’s red porous crushed brick, also known as red brick dust, is crushed to approximately 2.5mm and is ideal for baseball diamonds and mound areas. It is made from 100% red recycled bricks and is available in 1m³ bulka bags or loose by the tonne.

For clubs, councils and grounds teams, it gives that classic red diamond look while supporting drainage and surface presentation when installed and maintained correctly.  It is commonly used for baseball diamonds, pitcher’s mounds, infield areas, surface top-ups and club and council ground maintenance

Good grounds do not happen by accident. They need the right material underfoot.

Crushed Brick for Tennis Courts

Fine red porous crushed brick is also used for clay-style tennis courts.

For tennis, the grade matters. You cannot just throw any crushed material on a court and hope for the best. The surface needs to be fine, consistent and suitable for court use.

EcoGroup’s red porous crushed brick is crushed to approximately 2.5mm and is suitable for clay tennis court surfacing as well as baseball diamond applications. It is available in bulk bags, 20kg bags or loose supply.

For clubs, schools and private courts, it offers a practical recycled surface option with that traditional red court appearance.

It also makes maintenance and top-ups more manageable over time, which is exactly what clubs need when courts are being used week after week.

Crushed Brick in Landscaping

This is where crushed brick really earns its keep.

Landscapers use it because it brings instant colour, texture and contrast. It works around planting. It sits well beside timber and stone. It suits native gardens, heritage homes, acreage properties and outdoor spaces that need something more natural than concrete or paving.

A crushed brick path can make a garden feel more established. A feature area can suddenly look finished and a driveway can feel connected to the landscape.  It is especially useful when you want a surface that feels practical but not boring.

You will often see crushed brick used for, garden pathways, side access paths, decorative garden toppings, feature landscape areas, acreage driveways, informal parking areas, event surfaces, garden edging zones, firepit surrounds,

The best part is the variation. Recycled brick has life in it. The colour is not flat. The texture is not lifeless. That is what gives the finished space its character.

Crushed Brick for

Pathways

For garden pathways and decorative paths, smaller grades such as 2.5-10mm crushed brick are often a strong choice.

They create a finer surface underfoot while still delivering that warm recycled brick look. This makes them a good fit for side paths, garden walkways, courtyards, informal trails and landscape areas where concrete would feel too hard and standard gravel would feel too plain.

A good pathway should do more than get people from one point to another. It should help guide the landscape and make the space feel considered.

Crushed brick does that well.

Crushed Brick for Driveways

Driveways need a tougher approach.

For vehicle access, larger grades such as 2.5-20mm or 20mm minus crushed brick are usually better suited. These products are more appropriate for heavier-use outdoor areas, rural access points, acreage driveways and informal parking areas.

They bring a rustic, grounded finish that works particularly well on larger properties or homes where a standard concrete driveway is not the right look.

Used well, crushed brick can make a driveway feel like part of the property, not just a strip of hard surface leading to the garage.

exposed aggregate crushed brick

Crushed Brick for
Exposed Aggregate

Crushed brick also has a place in exposed aggregate finishes.

EcoGroup supplies brick aggregate products such as 5-10mm and 10-14mm brick aggregate for exposed aggregate applications.

This gives concreters, builders and designers a way to introduce warmth, colour and recycled material into concrete finishes. Instead of relying only on standard stone aggregate, crushed brick aggregate can create a finish with more personality.

It can work well in, driveways, paths, courtyards, pool surrounds, outdoor entertaining areas, feature concrete areas

For projects where the finish matters, brick aggregate gives the surface a point of difference without overcomplicating the job.

Choosing the Right Crushed Brick Product

This is where it pays to ask the right questions.

Not every crushed brick product suits every job. A baseball diamond, tennis court, pathway, driveway and exposed aggregate finish all need different material characteristics.  As a guide
